Thermal Physics
Thermal Physics Gallery
The Thermal Physics Gallery features photos of thermometers, icicles, IR photography, and thermal images of homes that illustrate the concepts associated with heat, temperature and heat transfer. This gallery coordinates with both lessons of the Thermal Physics chapter of The Physics Classroom Tutorial.

Lesson 1: Heat and Temperature
Lesson 1 discusses the distinction between heat and temperature, the operation of thermometers, methods of heat transfer and variables affecting the rates of heat transfer. Items in the group's pool include photos of various types of thermometers, convection currents, thermal expansion gaps and loops, firewalkers, campfires, examples of heating and cooling patterns. Photos complement many of the discussions from Lesson 1 of the Thermal Physics chapter of The Physics Classroom Tutorial.

Lesson 2: Calorimetry
Lesson 2 discusses the conceptual and mathematical aspects of calorimetry; methods of measuring the amount of heat transfer are discussed and calculations are modeled. Items in the group's pool include boiling and freezing phenomenon, superheated steam demonstrations, Nutrition Facts labels, and much more. Photos complement many of the discussions from Lesson 2 of the Thermal Physics chapter of The Physics Classroom Tutorial.
