Definition of Resonance:
Resonance is the phenomenon that occurs when the vibrating of one object forces another object with the same natural frequency to begin vibrating. The two objects resonateor sound out together, producing a louder sound than could be produced by the vibration of the single object.

If a single object vibrates at its natural frequency, then a sound wave is produced. If the vibrating object in turn forces another object to resonate at the same natural frequency, then there are two sources producing the same frequency. Two sources are clearly louder than one source, so resonance can lead to a louder sound. The effect on loudness is enhanced when the surface area of the second object is enlarged, thus setting a larger quantity of air molecules vibrating.
