Volume and Temperature - Directions
Using the Volume and Temperature Concept Builder is quite simple. There are three activities. Each activity has its own unique set of tasks to complete. In the first activity - The Basic Relationship - students must identify characteristics which describe the basic relationship between volume and temperature for a sample of gas. All questions are multiple choice. Answering a question involves tapping on one of the three or four answer options. Tapping highlights the selected option. If you experience a change of mind, then you can tap a second time to deselect an option or tap on a different option. As long as you have selected and answer option, a Check Answer button will be visible. If you are satisfied with your choice of an answer, tap on the Check Answer button. Your answer(s) will be evaluated and your Progress Report will be updated.
The second activity - Proportional Reasoning - is quite different. There are six total Question Groups. Three of these Question Groups contain multi-part questions in which you have to recognize a pattern from a table of volume-temperature data and then identify a set or sets of two rows that illustrate the pattern. You can select the answers by tapping on an option. When tapped, the option will be highlighted, indicating that it is a selected answer. Tap a second time to deselect the option. Once both questions have been answers, a Check Answer button will appear. If you are satisfied with your choice of an answers, tap on the Check Answer button. Your answer(s) will be evaluated and your Progress Report will be updated. Three of the Question Groups in this activity will present a table of Volume-Temperature data and ask you to extrapolate from the data in order to determine a volume for a temperature value that lies outside the range of the table data. You can tap on the answer field to enter the answer. Tapping pops up our built in number pad. Tap on the number buttons in the number pad to enter your answer. Once you are satisfied with your answer, tap on the Check Answer button.
The third activity - V-T Data - is quite different than the other two. A table of data is provided. Each row of the table has a missing value. You will need to use your understanding of the pressure-temperature relationship in order to fill in the table. To fill in a cell of the table, simply tap on it. When you tap on a cell, our built-in number pad will appear. Tap on buttons in the number pad to enter your answer. Once entered, you can exit out of the number pad using the Enter button or the Tap to Close button. Or you can simply tap on a different cell of the table to enter its answer. Table cells are color coded and the colors are updated as you enter data. A health bar is displayed in the Progress Report section of the Concept Builder. It is updated every time you tap on the Check Answer button. The Concept Builder is scripted to check the answer for any cell that contains a numerical answer. If that cell value is incorrect, the health bar will go down by 2%. If your Health Rating exceeds 60% once your table is completed, then you will not have to complete a second table If the Health Rating drops below 60%, then you will be presented with another table. You must complete tables until your Health Rating is satisfactory or you have completed your third table.
Your goal is to earn "Stars" and to complete one or more activities. Stars are earned when you show success on a particular question. If you miss a question then you will have to answer two similar questions correctly before earning a star. Once you show success on all the questions for a particular activity, you will earn the trophy for that activity.
