Horizontally Launched Projectile Animation

The horizontally launched projectile animation depicts the motion of a cannonball launched at angle from an elevated position on top of a cliff. The animation portrays the horizontal and vertical components of the velocity vector of the cannonball as it falls to the ground. The numerical values of the horizontal and vertical velocity also displayed. As the projectile moves through the air, the horizontal component of the velocity remains constant (due to the absence of horizontal forces). The vertical component of the velocity vector is changing. There is a vertical acceleration due to the vertical force of gravity. Observe that the vertical velocity changes by 10 m/s every second. This is an approximation for the value of the acceleration of gravity (10 m/s/s).
