Horizontal Springs: Velocity and Force Analysis

The Horizontal Springs: Velocity and Force Analysis Concept Builder focuses attention upon how the velocity of and net force varies for a vibrating mass attached to a horizontal spring. The Concept Builder consists 56 questions organized into 14 Question Groups and spread across three activities. In the first activity - Speed Analysis - learners must identify the position at which the speed of a vibrating mass is the greatest and the position where the speed is 0; they must also indicate how the speed changes between any two positions in the path. In the second activity - Force Analysis - learners must identify the position at which the net force upon a vibrating mass is the greatest and the position where the net force is 0; they must also indicate how the net force changes between any two positions in the path.. In the third activity - Graphical Analysis - learners must relate various sections of a velocity-time plot for a vibrating mass on a spring to the positions along the path. Question-specific help is provided for each of the 14 situations. Use of this Concept Builder with our Task Tracker system allows teachers to track student progress.
