Mission TC1 Energy

Mission TC1 pertains to concepts of energy. Students must be acquainted with potential energy, kinetic energy, a system-surroundings model, and the law of energy. The mission consists of 32 questions organized into 8 Question Groups.

Mission TC2 Heat and Temperature

Mission TC2 pertains to concepts of temperature and heat transfer. Students must use a model of heat as the flow of energy from a high temperature object to a low temperature object. The mission consists of 32 questions organized into 8 Question Groups.

Mission TC3 Energy Change and Reactions

Mission TC3 requires that students understand the bond-breaking and bond-forming steps of chemical reactions and their associated energy changes. Students must also relate the relative energies of these two steps to the overall energy change, the release or absorption of energy by the system, and to energy level diagrams. The mission consists of 36 questions organized into 9 Question Groups.

Mission TC4 Endothermic versus Exothermic

Mission TC4 pertains to the definitions, characteristics, and representations of endothermic and exothermic processes. The mission consists of 36 questions organized into 9 Question Groups.

Mission TC5 Calorimetry

Mission TC5 pertains to the science of calorimetry. Students must have a good comprehension of coffee cup calorimetry, the law of energy conservation, and relationships between Q, m, C, and ∆T. The mission consists of 36 questions organized into 9 Question Groups.

Mission TC6 Energy and Changes of State

Mission TC6 pertains to energy aspects of state changes. Students must understand heating curves and heat of fusion calculations. The mission consists of 32 questions organized into 8 Question Groups.

Mission TC7 Enthalpy Change

Mission TC7 pertains to the concepts of enthalpy and enthalpy change. Students must be able to interpret enthalpy level diagrams and relate the enthalpy change to endothermic and exothermic reactions. The mission consists of 36 questions organized into 9 Question Groups.

Mission TC8 Thermochemical Equations

Mission TC8 pertains to thermochemical equations. Students must be able to relate the ∆H of a reaction to the heat term of a thermochemical equation and be able to interpret such equations. The mission consists of 32 questions organized into 8 Question Groups.

Mission TC9 Law of Constant Heat Summation

Mission TC9 pertains to Hess's Law. Students must understand Hess's Law and use it to determine the ∆H value of a reaction. The mission consists of 32 questions organized into 8 Question Groups.

Mission TC10 Bond Enthalpy and Enthalpy Change

Mission TC10 pertains to the relationship between bond enthalpy and the enthalpy change of a chemical reaction. Students analyze chemical reactions and particle diagram representations to express how ∆H depends upon specific bond enthalpy values. The mission consists of 32 questions organized into 28 Question Groups.

Mission TC11 Thermal Stoichiometry

Mission TC11 pertains to thermal stoichiometry. Students perform simple moles-to-energy conversions using information from a thermochemical equation and identify the proper factor label setup for a gram-to-energy conversion. The mission consists of 24 questions organized into 6 Question Groups.
