Physics Classroom is making strides to make our site accessible to everyone. Our site contains 6 navigation areas. The Primary, Secondary, and Page Level navigations have a screen reader version of their nav structure that allows using the left and right keys to navigate sibling navigation items, and up or down keys to navigate parent or child navigation items. The others can be navigated using tabs. The Primary Navigation handles the first 2 levels of site pages. The Secondary (which is not always available) handles the 3rd and 4th level of structure. The Page level navigation allows you to navigate the current page's headings quickly. The Header Navigation contains the Light/Dark Mode toggle, Search, Notifications and account login. The Breadcrumb Navigation contains the breadcrumb of the current page. If the current page has a breadcrumb, you can get to it by skipping to the content and tabbing in reverse (shift plus tab). The Footer Navigation contains links such as Privacy, Contact, about and terms. Some resources contain an Audio Player that can be activated by holding down the T key for 3 seconds, and then using K to pause and resume. While not every area of Physics Classroom is usable purely from keyboard and screen reader, we are committed to continue work on making this possible. If you have questions or need additional help, please use this link to contact us.

Intermolecular Forces - Directions

Using the Intermolecular Forces Concept Builder is quite simple. There are three activities in all. They each work a little differently. In the first activity - Paragraph Completion - you are given a paragraph with several blanks. You must fill in the blank with the appropriate word or phrase. The blanks have a grey background and the words Tap Me! displayed in red. Tapping on the grey blank will toggel through answer options. Once the last option is displayed, an additional tap recycles back to the first option. Continue tapping until your preferred phrase is displayed. Once you have selected answers for all blanks, a Check Answer button is displayed. Tapping on Check Answer will check all your selected options. You will be told the number of correct answers but not which are correct. You will need to make changes and continue checking until you have correctly completed the paragraph. There is no penalty for excessive attempts (other than the time and frustration it takes to make excessive attempts). There are three of these paragraphs to complete, once you have successfully completed all three paragraphs, you will earn the Trophy for the activity (Task Tracker users only).

In the second activity - Force Identification - you are given the Lewis electron dot diagram for a substance. You will have to answer three questions about the substance: Does it contain any polar bonds? Is the molecule polar? And What types of intermolecular forces does the substance experience? The first two questions can be answered Yes or No by tapping on the Tap Me! button. Tapping will toggle between the Yes and No options. The third question can be answered by tapping on one or more of the three intermolecular force buttons. Tapping will toggle it to "Yes" as denoted by the red, bold text and the yellow background. Tapping a second time will toggle the buttons to "No" as denoted by black text and a white background. You can select all the forces that apply. As long as you have selected at least one force and have answered the other two questions as either Yes or No, a Check Answer button appears. If you are satisfied with your answer choices, then tap on the Check Answer button. Your answers will be evaluated and your Progress Report will be updated (for Task Tracker users only).

In the third activity - Ranking Tasks - you are given the formula for three substances and must rank the substances according to the strength of their intermolecular forces. You can rank each substance by tapping on the Tap Me! buttons below the formula. Tapping will toggle between Weakest, Middlest, and Strongest. Once you have a unique ranking for each one of the three substances, a Check Answer button appears. If you are satisfied with your rankings, then tap on the Check Answer button. Your answers will be evaluated and your Progress Report will be updated (for Task Tracker users only).

Your goal is to earn "Stars" and to complete one or more activities. Stars are earned when you show success on a particular question. Once you show success on all the questions for a particular activity, you will earn the trophy for that activity.
