Name That Harmonic: Open-End Air Columns - Directions
Using the Name That Harmonic Concept Builder is quite simple. You will be given some information about a resonating, open-end air column and you will have to identify the wave pattern that is consistent with that information. There are three activities included in this Concept Builder. In the first activity - ID the Pattern - you will simply have to identify the standing wave pattern for each of the first six harmonics. A diagram will display on the screen. You can tap on the diagram to toggle through the various choices. The number of choices and the currently selected choice is indicated below the diagram. Once you are satisfied with the selected option, then tap on the Check Answer button. Your answer will be evaluated and your Progress Report will be updated.
In the second activity - Frequency - you are told the fundamental frequency (first harmonic) of an open-end air column and the frequency of an unknown harmonic. You will have identify the standing wave pattern associated with this harmonic. Once again you can toggle through the answer options by tapping on the provided diagram. Each tap changes the wave pattern. The number of choices and the currently selected choice is indicated below the diagram. Once you are satisfied with the selected option, then tap on the Check Answer button. Your answer will be evaluated and your Progress Report will be updated.
In the third activity - Wavelength - you are told the length of a resonating, open-end air column and the wavlength of the standing wave that is vibrating in it. You will have to identify the standing wave pattern associated with this wavelength. You do so by tapping on the provided diagram to toggle through the answer options. Once you are satisfied with the selected option, then tap on the Check Answer button. Your answer will be evaluated and your Progress Report will be updated.
Your goal is to earn "Stars" and to complete one or more levels of difficulty. Stars are earned when you show success on a particular question. Once you show success on all the questions at a particular difficulty level, you will earn the Trophy for that actvitiy.
