Physics Classroom is making strides to make our site accessible to everyone. Our site contains 6 navigation areas. The Primary, Secondary, and Page Level navigations have a screen reader version of their nav structure that allows using the left and right keys to navigate sibling navigation items, and up or down keys to navigate parent or child navigation items. The others can be navigated using tabs. The Primary Navigation handles the first 2 levels of site pages. The Secondary (which is not always available) handles the 3rd and 4th level of structure. The Page level navigation allows you to navigate the current page's headings quickly. The Header Navigation contains the Light/Dark Mode toggle, Search, Notifications and account login. The Breadcrumb Navigation contains the breadcrumb of the current page. If the current page has a breadcrumb, you can get to it by skipping to the content and tabbing in reverse (shift plus tab). The Footer Navigation contains links such as Privacy, Contact, about and terms. Some resources contain an Audio Player that can be activated by holding down the T key for 3 seconds, and then using K to pause and resume. While not every area of Physics Classroom is usable purely from keyboard and screen reader, we are committed to continue work on making this possible. If you have questions or need additional help, please use this link to contact us.

Dissociation - Directions

Using the Dissociation Concept Builder is quite simple. There are three activities in all. In the first activity - Ion ID - you are given the name or the formula of an ionic compound. You will have to identify the cation and the anion that are present in the compound. There are two sets of answer options - one for the cation and one for the anion. You can select your answer by tapping on the answer option or the radio button located to the left of the option. When selected, the words will turn red and the radio button will show a red center. If you change your mind, then simply tap on a different option. As long as you have an answer option selected for the cation and the anion, the Check Answer button will be visible. Once you are satisfied with your choice of answers, tap on the Check Answer button. Your answer will be evaluated and your Progress Report will be updated.

In the second activity - Dissociation Equations - you are given either the name or the formula of an ionic compound and you have to create the dissociation equation for that compound. To do so, you must tap on fields within the chemical equation in order to select formulas for the two dissociated ions and their coefficients. Continued tapping will toggle through the set of formula options for the cation and the anion. Tapping on the coefficient field will increase the coefficient by 1; you must pick a number between 1 and 6 for the coefficients. If the ionic compound's formula is not given, then you must also select the correct formula for the reactant. Once you have chosen all the coefficients and formulas, the Check Answer button will be visible. If you are satisfied with your set of answers, tap on the Check Answer button. Your answers will be evaluated and your Progress Report will be updated. If you need to change an answer, then tap on a different choice or deselect the current choice by tapping on it.

In the third activity - Ion Concentrations - you are given the formula and the concentration of a strong electrolyte. You must determine the concentrations of the two ions that are formed when it dissociates in water. The questions are multiple choice so you can simply tap on the concentration value or the radio button next to the value in order to select your answer. If you change your mind, tap on the same answer to deselect it or tap on a different answer option. As long as you have selected answers for both the cation and the anion, the Check Answer button will be visible. If you are satisfied with your choice of answers, tap on the Check Answer button. Your answers will be evaluated and your Progress Report will be updated. If you need to change an answer, then tap on a different choice or deselect the current choice by tapping on it.

Your goal is to earn "Stars" and to complete one or more activities. Stars are earned when you show success on a particular question. Once you show success on all the questions for a particular activity, you will earn the trophy for that activity.
