Metric System - Directions
Using the Metric System Concept Builder is quite simple. There are three activities in all. Each activity is unique from the others. In the first activity - Milli, Centi, and Kilo - you have to answer three different questions. Each of the three questions focuses on one of the three Greek prefixes used to describe an amount - milli, centi, and kilo. Each question is a fill-in-the-blank style question in which you must complete a statement. There are two statements to complete. You can complete a statement by tapping on the Tap here to select answer button. Tapping allows you to toggle through the eight answer options. Once you have viewed all eight options, continued tapping cycles back through the options again. A Check Answer button appears at the bottom of the screen once you have completed both statements. If you are satisfied with your choice of answers, tap on the Check Answer button. Your answers will be evaluated and your Progress Report will be updated.
The second activity - Matching Pairs - is quite different. There are eight quantities given and you must pair the quantities that are equivalent to one another. There are four matches to make. You can match them up in pairs by selected two of the eight quantities. You select a quantity by tapping on the quantity in the grid. You know that it is selected because it will be highlighted by a red square. When two quantities are selected a Check Match button is displayed (on the right side of the window). If you are satisfied with your choice of answers, tap on the Check Match button. Your answers will be evaluated and your Progress Report will be updated. If you happen to mismatch a pair, then you will have to start over. The eight quantities will be re-scrambled and assume a different location on the grid.
In the third activity - Ranking Tasks - you are presented with three metric quantities that have the same base unit. You have to inspect the quantities and make judgements as to which is the greatest, the smallest, and the middlest of the quantities. Tapping on the Tap Me! button to the right of the quantity allows you to give each quantity a unique rating. Once all three quantities have been given a unique rating, a Check Answer button is displayed at the bottom of the screen once you have completed both statements. If you are satisfied with your choice of answers, tap on the Check Answer button. Your answers will be evaluated and your Progress Report will be updated.
Your goal is to earn "Stars" and to complete one or more difficulty levels. Stars are earned when you show success on a particular question. Once you show success on all the questions for a particular activity, you will earn the trophy for that activity.
