LOL Charts (a.k.a., Energy Bar Charts) - Directions
Using the LOL Charts Concept Builder is quite simple. There are three different difficulty levels that can be completed. The tasks performed in each difficulty level are identical - you will have to complete an LOL chart (energy bar chart) that shows how energy is stored, transferred and conserved for a physical situations. In each question, you are told the initial and the final state of an object undergoing a motion. You are also told what the system includes and given a few important notes about the motion. You have to use up-down arrows to set the heights of the bars in the bar chart. And you have to identify whether energy passes into the system, out of the system, or if the system conserves its energy altogether. To show he energy transfer, tap on the oval in the middle of the diagram, When you do, the diagram changes. Repeated tapping results in repeated changes. If you select the option that energy enters the system from the surroundings, a large arrow is shown in the top right of the oval. You can tap on the arrow to change the amount of energy that enters the system; options range from 1 to 6. If you select the option that energy exits the system to the surroundings, a large arrow is shown in the bottom left of the oval. You can tap on the arrow to change the amount of energy that exits the system.
Once you have completed the two essentials - chosen some initial and/or final energy types and shown how energy enters or exits the system - a Check Answer button appears. If you are satisfied with your answer, tap on the Check Answer button. Your answers will be evaluated and your Progress Report will be updated.
There are two question marks at the bottom of the screen. Tapping on the question mark on the left displays information that describes the four different energy labels - Ek, Eg, ECh, and EInt. Tapping on the question mark on the right displays information about the energy transfer arrows.
Your goal in the activity is to earn "Stars" and to complete one or more of the difficulty levels. Stars are earned when you show success on a particular question. Once you show success on all the questions of a particular level, you will earn the Trophy for that level.
