Mission MCC6 Significant Digits and Measurement

Mission MCC6 pertains to measurement precision and the reporting of all significant digits in a measurement. Students should be familiar with how to make a measurement from digits of certainty plus one estimated digit. The mission consists of 32 questions organized into 8 Question Groups.

Learning Outcomes

  • The student should be able to recognize that the number of digits in a measurement is associated with how precise the instrument is.
  • The student should be able to identify the importance of a trailing zero in a measured value.
  • The student should be able to report a measurement from a volumetric cylinder or a cm-ruler to the proper number of significant digits.
