Physics Classroom is making strides to make our site accessible to everyone. Our site contains 6 navigation areas. The Primary, Secondary, and Page Level navigations have a screen reader version of their nav structure that allows using the left and right keys to navigate sibling navigation items, and up or down keys to navigate parent or child navigation items. The others can be navigated using tabs. The Primary Navigation handles the first 2 levels of site pages. The Secondary (which is not always available) handles the 3rd and 4th level of structure. The Page level navigation allows you to navigate the current page's headings quickly. The Header Navigation contains the Light/Dark Mode toggle, Search, Notifications and account login. The Breadcrumb Navigation contains the breadcrumb of the current page. If the current page has a breadcrumb, you can get to it by skipping to the content and tabbing in reverse (shift plus tab). The Footer Navigation contains links such as Privacy, Contact, about and terms. Some resources contain an Audio Player that can be activated by holding down the T key for 3 seconds, and then using K to pause and resume. While not every area of Physics Classroom is usable purely from keyboard and screen reader, we are committed to continue work on making this possible. If you have questions or need additional help, please use this link to contact us.

Buoyancy - Directions

The Buoyancy Concept Builder is quite simple to use. There are three different activities and each activity involves a different task. In the first activity - Paragraph Completion - you are given a paragraph with eight missing words or phrases. You must complete the paragraph. You do so by tapping on the "Tap Me!" buttons above each blank in order to toggle through the answer options for that blank. Once you have filled in each blank, a Check Answer button appears. If you are satisfied with your answers, tap on the Check Answer button. If not, edit your selection by tapping again; then tap the Check Answer button. Your answers will be evaluated and you will be given immediate feedback. If you have incorrect responses, you can make corrections and try again. Once you have accurately completed the paragraph, you will be rewarded the Trophy for the activity (for Task Tracker users only).

In the second activity - Buoyant Force - you are presented with two diagrams. Diagram A shows a rock on a spring scale. Diagram B shows the same rock and spring scale; but now the rock is submerged in water. Water overflows the container and is collected and weighed. You must use the given information and Archimede's Principle to determine three different numerical values. You can tap the Tap Me! buttons in each blank to select an answer from six options. Once you have answers to each of the three blanks, a Check Answer button appears. If you are satisfied with your answers, tap on the Check Answer button. If not, edit your answers by continued tapping; then tap the Check Answer button. Your answer will be evaluated and your Progress Report will be updated (for Task Tracker users).

In the third activity - Which One Doesn't Belong? - you are presented with four statements. One of the statements is inconsistent with the other three. You must determine the one that doesn't belong. Tap on the statement to select it; it will be hilighted with a grey box. If you change you mind, tap the statement a second time to deselect it or tap on a different statement. As long as you have selected a statement, a Check Answer button is visible. If you are satisfied with your answer, tap on the Check Answer button. If not, edit your selection by tapping on a different statement; then tap the Check Answer button. Your answer will be evaluated and your Progress Report will be updated (for Task Tracker users).

Your goal is to answer questions, earn "Stars" (Task Tracker users), and to complete one or more activities. Stars are earned when you show success on a particular question. Once you show success on all the questions for a particular activity, you will earn the Trophy for that activity.
