Properties of Matter - Directions
Using the Properties of Matter Concept Builder is quite simple to use. There are three different activities and each activity involves a different task. In the first activity - Where Am I? - you are presented with a statement about a property of a sample of matter. Based on the statement, the sample must be identified as a solid, a liquid, or a gas (or more than one of these). You do this by tapping on one or more of the three provided buttons labeled Solid, Liquid, and Gas. Once tapped, the button is hilighted (red text and yellow outline) and a Check Answer button appears. If you are satisfied with your answer, tap on the Check Answer button. If not, edit your selection by tapping again or tapping on other buttons; then tap the Check Answer button. Your answer will be evaluated and your Progress Report will be updated (for Task Tracker users).
In the second activity - Matching Pairs - students are presented with a 3x3 grid of squares. The square in the top left holds directions which are updated throughout the activity. The other 8 squares include a phrase or vocabulary term. You must match the vocabulary term to its definition or description. You do so by tapping each square in consecutive order. Once two squares are tapped on, they will be color-coded with the same color and a Check Match button appears on the right-side panel of the Concept Builder. If you are satisfied with your answer, tap on the Check Match button. If not, modify your selection by tapping to deselect a square and tapping a different square. As long as you have made two selections, the Check Match button is displayed. Tap the Check Match button. You will be given feedback and an opportunity to continue making the other three matches. If you mis-match a pair, the terms will be re-randomized and re-positioned and you will have to start over. Once all four pairs are matched, you will receive the star for the exercise. You will have to complete two different Matching Pair exercises before the activity is completed and you receive the Trophy (for Task Tracker users only).
In the third activity - Two Truths and a Lie - students are presented with three statements regarding properties of matter. Two of the statements are true and one is false. You must identify the false statement. You so do by tapping on it. Once tapped on, the statement will be highlighted and a Check Answer button appears. If you are satisfied with your answer, tap on the Check Answer button. If not, edit your selection by tapping on a different statement; then tap the Check Answer button. Your answer will be evaluated and your Progress Report will be updated (for Task Tracker users).
Your goal is to answer questions, earn "Stars" (Task Tracker users), and to complete one or more activities. Stars are earned when you show success on a particular question. Once you show success on all the questions for a particular activity, you will earn the Trophy for that activity.
