Pascal's Principle - Directions
The Pascal's Principle Concept Builder is quite simple to use. There are three different activities and each activity involves a different task. In the first activity - Paragraph Completion - you are given a paragraph with eight missing words or phrases. You must complete the paragraph. You do so by tapping on the "Tap Me!" buttons above each blank in order to toggle through the answer options for that blank. Once you have filled in each blank, a Check Answer button appears. If you are satisfied with your answers, tap on the Check Answer button. If not, edit your selection by tapping again; then tap the Check Answer button. Your answers will be evaluated and you will be given immediate feedback. If you have incorrect responses, you can make corrections and try again. Once you have accurately completed the paragraph, you will be rewarded the Trophy for the activity (for Task Tracker users only).
In the second activity - The Hydraulic Lift - you are presented with a diagram of a hydraulic lift. The areas of the two pistons are shown in the diagram. The input force on the smaller piston is given. You must determine the output force at piston B. You select your answer by tapping on the Tap Me! field. Tapping toggles through the four to six possible answers and then recycles back through again. Once you have identified your desired answer, tap on the Check Answer button. Your answer will be evaluated and your Progress Report will be updated (for Task Tracker users).
In the third activity - Thinking Proportionally - you are presented with a diagram of a hydraulic lift. The areas of the two pistons are shown in the diagram. Given these areas, you must determine how many times greater (or smaller) that the force on, the pressure at, and the displacement of Piston B is relative to Piston A. There are three Tap Me! fields for the three different questions and answers. Tapping on these fields toggles through the possible answer options. Once you have identified an answer for each of the three questions, a Check Answer button appears. If you are satisfied with your answers, tap on the Check Answer button. If not, edit your selections by tapping again; then tap the Check Answer button. Your answers will be evaluated and your Progress Report will be updated (for Task Tracker users).
Your goal is to answer questions, earn "Stars" (Task Tracker users), and to complete one or more activities. Stars are earned when you show success on a particular question. Once you show success on all the questions for a particular activity, you will earn the Trophy for that activity.
