Mission MAM4 Orbital Box Diagrams

Mission MAM4 pertains to the use of orbital box diagrams to determine and show the occupation of atomic orbitals by electrons. Students use an orbital box diagram to answer questions. The mission consists of 32 questions organized into 8 Question Groups.

Learning Outcomes

  • The student should be able to construct an orbital box diagram for the electrons in an atom of a given element.
  • The student should be able to use orbital box diagrams to identify the number of paired and unpaired electrons in the highest energy level.
