There are three basic types of Task Tracker users - students, teachers, and subscribers. If you're a classroom teacher and you (or your school) purchased a subscription, you must first be added to that subscription as a Teacher before you can do the
Task Tracker things that only teachers can do. Until you are added to the current active subscription, you account might resemble that of a student. Here's what to do about it:
Subscription Renewal
If you used a subscription in a previous school year, then your account was associated with that subscription. And until you or somebody else removes you from that subscription, you will be
locked into that subscription as one of its teachers. If the subscription was one that you purchased, then the fix is easy.
- Log into your Account.
- Tap on the Subscriptions link. The subscriptions page will open and you will see all subscriptions that have been purchased with your user account.
- Open a subscription from a previous year by tapping on the View icon (eyeball) to the left of the Subscription title.
- All teachers who were assigned to that subscription will be listed under the Teachers heading. You will likely find your name there. If you do, tap on the Transfer button (>>) to transfer yourself to the newly-purchased subcription.
- When given the option to disable past courses or to transfer past courses, the most commonly-chosen option involves disabling the past courses. This prevents students who are enrolled in those courses to take up seats in the newly-purchased subscription. In most cases, that's not good.
NOTE: You can only transfer yourself or other teachers from and to subscriptions that you own. You cannot transfer yourself to a subscription owned (purchased) by a different subscriber. However you can follow the above procedure to remove yourself from your past subscriptions so that another subscriber can add you to their newly-purchased subscription. To remove yourself, tap on the
Trash Can next your name under the
Teachers heading of the specific subscription to which you were most recently assigned. Don't worry, the
Trash Can won't destroy your account; it simply terminates your existence as a teacher under this subscription.
Group Subscriptions
Some teachers were part of a larger Group Plan to which multiple teachers have been assigned. When the subscription ends, those teachers are still
locked into that plan and can't be added to another plan until they are first removed. But often times, last year's subscriber (the one who purchased the account) is also this year's subscriber. And if that is the case, we have a short cut. The subscriber should do the following.
- Log into their Account.
- Tap on the Subscriptions link. The subscriptions page will open and they will see all subscriptions that have been purchased with their user account.
- Open a subscription from a previous year (like the most recent one) by tapping on the View icon (eyeball) to the left of the Subscription title.
- All teachers who were assigned to that subscription will be listed under the Teachers heading. For each one that needs to be transferred to the new subscription, the subscriber should tap on the Transfer button (>>) to transfer those teachers to the newly-purchased subcription.
- When given the option to disable past courses or to transfer past courses, the most commonly-chosen option involves disabling the past courses. This prevents students who are enrolled in those courses to take up seats in the newly-purchased subscription. In most cases, that's not good.
NOTE: There are occassions in which a teacher will not want to disable the course. For instance, the school may meet year round and a school term may span across two subscription seasons. Or the teacher may have used Task Tracker as a Course Preview Tool and assigned summer work to incoming students. Or a teacher may be in one Subscription during the current subscription season and wish to transfer to a different subscription during the same subscription season. These might all be instances in which a teacher would like to transfer the course with the students. In all cases, the students will occupy seats in both Subscriptions.
Who is My Subscriber?
It's easy to get lost in Task Tracker ... especially after a really good summer break .. or even when you have taken a break from Task Tracker for a year or more. So if you can't remember to what subscription you were most recently assigned as a teacher, use our
Subscription Locator link. You will find the subscription name and the subscription season in which your user account is
locked. The name and username of the Subscriber is also listed there. You can contact the subscriber and ask to be removed from that subscription. They can tap on the
Trash Can next to your name to remove you (if needed).
New to Task Tracker?
If you're new to Task Tracker (i.e., you've never had a Teacher account prior to this subscription season), then you don't have to worry about removing yourself from a previous subscription. But you do have to be added to a subscription in order to have the rights of a teacher - to create classes, create assignments, and view student progress. We are going to direct you to our page for that.
Visit here. (And by the way, welcome to Task Tracker.)
Still Having Troubles?
If the above hasn't solved your troubles and you still don't appear to have a teacher account, then you may be a member of the Lucky 5% Club. The source of your troubles could be any of the following:
- Multiple Accounts
Sometimes we find teachers have accumulated multiple accounts over the years. You might have purchased a subscription with one email account and assigned a different username (different email) to be a teacher of that account. We love having you as part of this gig, but ... we might want to tidy things up a bit to make the engine run a little smoother. Send us an email with sufficient detail for us to put your Task Tracker house in order.
- Previous Subscriber
Sometimes the subscriber has changed schools, changed roles, or changed friends and its time to pick a new subscriber. We can help. Send us an email and provide us with details so that we can transfer a past year's subscription to the subscriber for the current subscription season.
- In Hindsight, It Wasn't the Best Choice of a Subscriber
Yes. We know what you're talking about. The Purchasing Officer in the central office whom you've never met may not have been the best choice of a subscriber. We have found that the Purchasing Manager is really comfortable and quite gifted with the credit card, but an account at a Physics website causes measurable trauma. We always recommend that the subscriber be as close to the end user (the teacher) as feasible. For Group Plans, a lead teacher, a department supervisor, a department adminsitrative assistant are all great choices for a subscriber. There's nothing trendier and more anti-traumatic than being able to shout down the hallway of your office space and ask a colleague to remove you from last year's subscription. Once more, let us know how we can help get the best person serving the role of subscriber. Send us an email with details.
